CA-04, McClintock is in.

Perennial candidate Tom McClintock has decided to enter the GOP primary in California’s fourth district.  He’s moving over 400 miles from his home base of Thousand Oaks to this district northeast of Sacramento.

Ose is considered a relative moderate, so this could help our chances in this very red district.

Any thoughts?

  1. ’nuff said.  Wait… not enough said.  Anyone who was paying attention to the gubernatorial recall knows just how whacked out this guy is.  Let’s just hope he wins the primary.  It would definitely help Charlie Brown’s chances of still picking up this seat now that Doolittle is gone.

  2. House seats must be particularly inviting in California.  With State and local elected positions having tight term limits, the carousel keeps moving pols in the search for new and different (not neccessarily higher) offices.  A State Senator has more people in his/her district than a congressional district (40 for the whole state vs. 53).  Plus at $165 K, the seat pays pretty well.

McClintock has been looking for a safe harbor for a while.  He hjust had to move 400 miles for one. The districts were drawn to be incumbent protective, too.

Let’s see if the carpet bag aspect costs career pol Tom McClintock.

  3. Term limits have had that effect in California. Whenever a state legislature has to leave office due to term limits, there is a mad dash to find a new seat. Makes life difficult for career polititians. But McClintock is very popular among California republicans, mainly because he has been one of the few able to make a decent name for himself in this state. If the people of CA-4 get past the fact that he moved 400 miles, I fear he’s probably a shoe in, I’m sorry to say.

  4. I read that two of the previously-announced Republican contenders promptly dropped out, so the primary on their side won’t be quite as much of a bloodbath as we might like to witness, alas.
